Key points

Kraken has announced the launch of Avalanche (AVAX) staking and a suite of earning options for its global client base, simplifying participation in the Avalanche ecosystem for millions of users. The new services aim to make it easy for customers to earn rewards on their AVAX holdings without requiring technical setup or maintenance.

New Earning Options

The AVAX Earn service includes three distinct staking flavors:

Bonded Staking: Offers rewards of up to 10% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) for a limited promotional period, after which it will settle to up to 7% APY.
Auto Earn: Provides up to 3.5% APY.
Flexible Staking: Also offers up to 3.5% APY.

All options feature automatic restaking, enabling users to grow their holdings over time. Kraken will manage the underlying infrastructure, including validator operations and reward distribution, leveraging its established track record in operating staking services across proof-of-stake networks.

User Benefits and Accessibility

John Zettler, Kraken Director of Earn Products, highlighted the simplification of AVAX staking, stating, "Staking AVAX has always been possible, but for most holders it’s meant managing validators and technical complexity. We made it simple for clients to participate in protocol staking across various Earn offerings. Kraken runs the infrastructure. Clients choose whether and how they want to earn."

This move is expected to lower the barrier to entry for AVAX holders who may have been deterred by the technical intricacies of direct validator management. By handling the operational aspects, Kraken allows users to contribute to the security of the Avalanche network while earning rewards.

Ecosystem Support

John Nahas, Ava Labs Chief Business Officer, commented on the integration's significance for the Avalanche ecosystem: "Making staking simple and accessible is core to expanding participation in the Avalanche ecosystem. Kraken’s integration removes the technical barriers that have historically limited users from engaging directly with the network, enabling more AVAX holders to contribute to Avalanche’s security while earning rewards. It’s a meaningful step toward broader adoption of Avalanche."

Availability and Geographic Restrictions

AVAX Earn is available globally at launch. However, certain geographic restrictions apply. Users in the US will be able to access the service, with exceptions for residents of New York and Maine. Availability also extends to the UK, EU, Canada, Australia, and additional markets.
